Just like every other fashion conscious person out there with a blog, it is time to write about the Oscars. At such a star studded event, you would expect nothing less than to see some amazing and dazzling dresses that would leave you in awe, and usually that is the case. However I must be completely honest and say that this year, I was underwhelmed. Nothing I saw on the red carpet blew me away or knocked my socks off, however you want to put it. It was a rather mediocre fashion display. Of course, it isn't all negative, there were some stunning gowns worn, and a few people looked drop dead gorgeous.

My favourite look would have to be Gwyneth Patrol who looks absolutely stunning in this all white dress and cape, not showing too much, yet still looking fabulous. Got to love a bit of Tom Ford.

Milla Jovovich looks very glamorous in this sparkling white dress by Elie Saab. A brunette Marilyn Monroe reborn.

Meryl Streep looks amazing in this dress by Lanvin. I wouldn't have thought I would ever like a dress this colour, but she definitely pulls it off well.

Keeping it very simple with this dress, but I think that it looks very cute and feminine.

Octavia Spencer looks absolutely gorgeous as she has done these past few awards seasons, in this Tadashi Shoji dress. Very flattering.

And last but not least, you can't deny that Penelope Cruz is giving Cinderella a run for her money in this gorgeous flowing dress by Armani Prive.

But all the gorgeous looks come to an end there I'm afraid (at least in my books). And there were some celebs who I think, sadly, got it terribly wrong on the red carpet this time around.

Before I say anything, I just want to let everyone know that I am fan of Angelina Jolie. I think the woman is absolutely stunning, and usually she blows me away, but something about this dress does not work for me. It looks as though a curtain has been cut up unevenly and wrapped around her unevenly too. And to make it worse, this pose is not really helping me see the beauty in this look. Next.

This outfit also looks like a desperate last minute attempt to use curtains as a dress... It looks as though it has been attached at the back with safety pins...

As much as the emerald green looks amazing against Viola's skin, this dress by Vera Wang just isn't very flattering.

Another, "I can't find a dress, so I'll use my curtains" look. I needn't say anymore.

R.I.P Whitney Houston

I just heard the tragic news of Whitney Houston's passing. It is so sad, she was a very talented woman, and I hope she rests in peace. Her music will live on.

On another note, I am extremely disgusted at people's comments. I don't understand how anyone can say that this woman deserved to die, or make sarcastic jokes and comments about it. A woman has died. She was someone's mother, someone's daughter, someone's sister, someone's granddaughter. Who are we to judge someone else? A woman has died, and it is extremely sad and heartbreaking for those who cared deeply about her. It doesn't matter how she died, or why she died, the result is the same, it is a loss to many people who loved her greatly, many people whom she inspired. Similar happened when Amy Winehouse died. Yes, these people may have taken drugs, but does that really mean that you have the right to say they deserved to die or joke about it? No. It doesn't. Imagine if that was your family member? And it angers me and fills me with such shame to be a part of a race that can act so nonchalant and disrespectful about something as sensitive as another person's death. It show's how heartless we are. If you really don't care, if you really feel like she deserved to die, then you can at least keep your mouth shut and your opinions to yourself.

A person's death is not something that should be the topic of another person's joke. No matter who they are, or how they died.

Chanel Cigarettes.

I did this still life shoot for one of my university projects. I have NEVER worked with still life before (apart from a flower project I did a long time ago), and I found it VERY hard. I know what you're thinking, how can it be hard to photograph a packet of cigarettes? Well I found it extremely uninspiring to photograph objects that didn't respond, I felt like they didn't really give me anything. It's the same feeling you get when you work with a model that doesn't really put any effort in or is unresponsive.
I realise now that still life is all about perspective, and angles. It will take me a while to get used to. But here is my first attempt.

I customized a packet of sterling cigarettes by dipping them in glitter, studding them and drawing on them. I also customized the box completely. I guess you could say that by adding the massive fashion label "Chanel" onto a box of cigarettes, I am glamorizing smoking, but a lot of people in fashion smoke, so may as well brand them!
(The concept of the Chanel Cigarettes is to suit a university project concept.)

Beyonce "White Skin-Row"

This topic is really beginning to irritate me. Every online newspaper is talking about how Beyonce's skin looks lighter in her recent photoshoot. And it is very true, her skin is definitely a lot lighter than it usually is. But I have recently seen a post on 'The Guardian' titled; "So what if Beyonce's skin colour is looking lighter?"

This sentence is what irritates me. So what if Beyonce's skin colour is looking a lighter.

This is not acceptable. Her skin should not be lighter. Yes, the camera lighting may have affected that, or the change of season as some people think, but that is besides the point. Why is it okay for her to look lighter? It is not okay at all. Everyone should accept their skin colour, and not try to alter it. It is heartbreaking to see beautiful black women lightening their skin colour, and almost 99% of the time, the transformation is never impressive. If anything, it just looks tacky, and fake. You were born black and you can't change that, no matter how much you lighten your skin. It shouldn't be the norm for black women to bleach their skin.

It also shouldn't be the norm for white people to tan - I just don't understand why people hate their skin colour so much. These are all small things, but they still contribute to the fact that the world is not equal. How will we ever be able to accept other people, if we can't even accept ourselves? It is not right, that someone of any colour, should feel so terrible about their appearance that they go to extreme methods of changing.

You are the way you are for a reason, and that is what makes you unique, so please, don't try to change yourself to blend in with what you "think" is beautiful. Everyone is beautiful, and should feel comfortable in their own skin.

Sheer shirts

I love sheer shirts, they are just gorgeous, light, and go with anything. They are (or were) in fashion for a while, being a trend that was even prominent in catwalk shows - I can definitely understand why. However, this isn't the reason that I like them, I just like them because, personally, they suit my style and I will still wear them when they are out of fashion too. Although I think, if worn right, these shirts are timeless.

The desire to be skinny.

This is a topic that is often spoken about, and even though people say that plus sizes and curvier women are being more and more accepted into the media, and among women in general - I don't see it that way. When I turn the TV on - I still see "skinny" being promoted, when I look at peoples blogs, I still see them posting images of extremely skinny women saying "I wish I had her figure". All I hear from girls is that they wish they could be a size 0 or a lot thinner than they are, when infact there is nothing wrong with their size or figure in the first place. Everyone is different, and this includes body shape and size, and until we learn to accept ourselves, how is the world meant to come to terms with it?

Marilyn Monroe - considered one of the most beautiful women in the world. She has curves but is still beautiful.

There are definitely weight boundaries that shouldn't be crossed, the ones that mean you will end up being labelled either, 'anorexic' or 'obese'. Being anorexic or obese is not something to be proud of or comfortable with, because this is when weight issues affect health and become life threatening.

However this still brings me to the point, that in general women want to be a size 0 - they want to be what they see on the catwalk. That is not healthy, and definitely not a good look. Women should accept their sizes, and stop trying to alter their body shapes so drastically. If you are naturally skinny, then be skinny. If you are naturally a bit bigger, then embrace every curve on your body, because that is what makes you who you are, and that is what makes you beautiful. If a girl is trying to lose weight and has an unhealthy obsession with how big or skinny they are, then I honestly think the problem is far more serious, something more mental, and loosing weight wont make those like this any happier.

Obesity is also a problem and I cannot stress enough how much it disgusts me to see people eat themselves to death. But both situations are one extreme to the other, more closely related than people realise, and this is a never-ending issue. Be happy with your size and the way you are. Women are meant to have curves, so trying to get rid of them is getting rid of everything that ever made you feminine, and men also don't find this very attractive either. So ladies, please don't count every calorie you eat, don't be afraid to eat a cake - do whatever you want and have a balanced diet, not one that consists of only celery.

Virgin Blak: Stand Out or Get Out... I love a lot of the clothing here! I don't usually write stuff like this, but this is such a unique brand I came across a few months ago whilst browsing eBay actually! I absolutely love their studded clothing and footwear. If you like studs, leather, and taking a risk with your fashion sense, Virgin Blak could be for you! This brand is not to everyone's taste of course, but I would definitely wear a lot of their stuff, and just thought I would write about this as I know it's not very popular in the UK! It's a bit pricey but definitely worth investing in if this is up your street!

Tattoos.

Tattoos to me are a way of displaying and expressing yourself through the use of body art, the only way some people find that they are able to really tell their story, really show what they are, and a way of marking something on their bodies that are important to them, forever. The key word being, "Forever". It seems that tattoos right now, are becoming a trend, people are getting very meaningless tattoos, for the sake of having one, so that they can be labelled individual, and appear hardcore.

It seems as though some people feel the need to get tattoos to show that they are part of a growing alternative subculture that seems to be losing it's meaning, and to prove something. Tattoos originally were tribal and cultural markings, and in the Western world, they were at least associated with the Punk era, as a sign of rebellion, but now, anyone and everyone is doing it for the fun of it - and some are not very tastefully done.

I used to want a tattoo, (very common - the birdcage) but I decided against it after a while because I thought, "what does this birdcage mean to me?" Without meaning you can only grow to hate your tattoos over a period of time, because I think the thing that people don't realise is that these are permanent, tattoos are the only things on us that we will take to the grave - this is why I don't believe in getting tattoos just because you think something looks pretty at the time, I think people should only get ones that really have a greater meaning behind them, even if it's something like their child's name.

I know some will disagree and say its a form of body art, which I totally agree with - yes it is a form of body art! But one that at the moment is being taken out of control - it's a trend that people are blindly following without realising that when tattoos are no longer fashionable, they can't just take them off, they will be with them always.

Kristen Stewart's awkwardness should be put to other uses..

Kristen Stewart is such a stunning girl, she takes some lovely photographs - which I would never have imagined considering she seems very awkward in person. I first noticed this about her when I watched Twilight some time ago, but I thought that perhaps her character was supposed to act that way, I haven't read the books or anything so I wasn't really sure of Bella's character. I still found it unusual but then again, the whole film is a bit weird.

But then later after watching some interviews with her, and seeing how she generally behaves in public, I've realised that this awkwardness is definitely not an act, and she's actually very painful to watch. She seems so uncomfortable all the time, like she has a nervous twitch, and I can imagine her to be very anti-social too. I've never seen anyone so awkward in my life, and I've met some very awkward people! I'm sure it can't be anything to do with being shy... or perhaps it is. Anyway, she's always playing a very awkward character in any of the films I've seen her in, so I'm guessing she can't act any other way, which means she's not a very good actress... BUT she photographs so beautifully, I think I prefer her as a model than an actress. I can't imagine what it must be like to photograph her... but it's got to be better than watching her on screen!

I think she looks gorgeous in all the photographs above! She would make a great model,

and at least no one would have to watch her painful awkward timid acting ! :P

The Creepers Trend

Now unfortunately I am not writing anything positive about these shoes, they are hideous to me. I don't understand how this shoe with an over-sized platform has become so popular. Especially among those who are trying to fit into the hipster stereotype. I don't like anything about them at all - not the way they look, or the patterns on them. Only a few people can pull them off, but everyone seems to wear them now. Some people also reckon that they're somehow being individual by wearing these, but let's be honest - individuality is extremely mainstream. Definitely not a good look in my books, unless you are really short and need those extra few inches!

Glamour model turns bodybuilder..

Everyday we learn something new, and today I discovered that the once voluptuous glamour model is now a......bodybuilder?

I don't really know why she has done this ... I can't get my head around the fact that ANY woman would want to be this hench and muscular, it definitely isn't attractive, infact I think it's horrendous. It's kind of scary to think someone can transform their body so drastically like this. I'm not sure if she thinks that she looks good like this or not. I'm not sure she cares either, but it was just a bit shocking to see really. She seems to constantly be changing things about her body. The tanning doesn't really help either, she looks a bit like brown leather.

DESPITE all the above being said however, I do admire the dedication this must have taken. To get the physique she now has, she must have dedicated her time to strict dieting and work out routines, something a lot of people find impossible to stick to nowadays. So yes, in a way I admire her, for her determination, dedication, and achievement.. still pretty freaked out though!!

Claire Barrow's PAINTED LEATHER

So something you might not have seen yet , is the painted leather designs by Claire Barrow. Her stuff is really cool and if you're looking for something unique to add to your wardrobe, her designs are something worth investing in! Her work is the outcome of leather and art combined, creating artistic jackets and more!

I have actually met Claire,when I interned with designer Charles Anastase early last year, she's a lovely girl! She's definitely come a long way, and I wish her all the best in the future!

SAGA SIG For Please! Magazine

I really like this shoot by photographer Saga Sig for Please! Magazine! It was photographed in Iceland, and the location adds a great natural theme of freedom to the photographs - it almost looks out of this world, literally. Very quirky! I wish I had amazing locations like this nearby to photograph at from time to time! So jealous of those who get the opportunity to do their shoots at such beautiful locations, it always makes the photograph!

Rachel Freire's Cow Nipple Dress

I think people are beginning to lose their minds now... I don't really know what to make of this. It's a ridiculous attempt at creating a high fashion outfit, and it isn't really clever either.

Rachel Freire made a dress out of what is apparently 3,000 cow and yak nipples. COW AND YAK NIPPLES. Seriously... this isn't even creative, it's just disgusting.
I actually had a look through her work, and she has done some pretty cool collections in the past, but this...

It doesn't even look nice. And I also don't see how someone could just wake up one day and decide to use cow and yak nipples to create what I'm guessing is MEANT to be a fashion piece... crazy.

Thylane Lena-Rose Blondeau for Vogue

So I am probably a bit late to post about this topic, but it still outrages me. I find it disgusting that French Vogue would go ahead and publish a fashion editorial, with a ten year old girl posing seductively and dressed provocatively.

For starters, this doesn't exactly promote fashion to real women, as clothes don't look the same on children as they do on adults.

Seeing a ten year old with heavy makeup wearing classic dresses and heels creep me out, and saddens me. It's no wonder children of our generation are growing up so quickly - the media plays a massive role in the way we ourselves think about our own image and how we should look, and when another ten year old see's this shoot, they're most likely going to want to dress up provocatively too. Girls (and boys too) only have a short amount of time to be young and carefree, and then they have rest of their lives ahead of them to dress up provocatively if they really want to, so why start when you're so young? I mean seriously, this girl isn't even a teenager yet, she hasn't even reached puberty. This whole concept is rather ridiculous if you ask me.

For this shoot to have gone through, and because Thylane IS still practically a toddler, her parents would have had to agree to this and sign something. That's what I find the most outrageous - her parents basically agreed to sexually exploit their 10 year old daughter. I don't think they realised how this editorial might be conceived and I definitely don't think they expected so much negativity to come from it. I think this photoshoot and any other photoshoot using child models in this way is encouraging to pedophiles for obvious reasons. Children shouldn't be exposed to such a vain industry, but sadly they are.

When I look at the photo below, I don't see a model at all. I see a girl who should be playing outside, with other children, without a care in the world. Not a girl who should be worrying about her appearance, or the clothes she is wearing..

Jasper Garvida LFW

On Monday I went to the Jasper Garvida fashion show which took place in the Bloomsbury hotel, with the Forward PR team! Somehow I managed to end up backstage instead of actually out front watching the show, so here are a few snaps I took! It was all very hectic, but there were some amazing pieces by Jasper, and I also got to meet the designer himself! Great show, and great atmosphere! This is the last show I attended this London Fashion Week, and was my last day at Forward PR before going back to university! Was a great experience and I look forward to LFW in February!

Corrie Nielsen S/S 12

I awoke at 4am in order to get ready and to the venue on time for Corrie Nielsen's show - so early that the people on my train into Central were people returning home from nights out! I was excited to help prepare for the show with the rest of the Forward PR team! It was very hectic in the morning, but I was looking forward to the show! (the photo of me was taken by Sophia, the rest by me). These are photos before the show!

It was a great experience to be so involved with a fashion show, and Corrie Nielsen didn't disappoint! Her show was amazing! I loved it and everyone I spoke to seemed to as well. Her theme was prominent throughout the whole show, with geisha hairstyles and cuts within her designs, and architectural structured shapes incorporated into each outfit. It was very elegant and classic! I look forward to seeing more from her in the future!

Veronica Moncho Lobo Fragrance Launch

I've been interning with Forward PR for about three weeks now! It's been great, doing work in preparation for London Fashion Week and seeing how the PR side of things go - this is my first real experience within PR! I've really enjoyed it, and Courtney Blackman (the founder of Forward PR) and Laura McCluskey are great fun to work for. One of their clients and designer, Veronica Moncho Lobo, has just released a new perfume, and so we attended her launch party last night! The launch party was held in the official boutique store, which was quite small for the amount of people invited, but it was a lovely evening and people didn't mind standing outside! There was a lot of champagne to go around, and I met a lot of very interesting people there yesterday! Here are some photos that I took on my mobile phone!

Marios Schwab AW/11

I've decided to put up some of the written pieces I did before Summer at university. We had a publications project, which wasn't all about journalism, but writing was inclusive! I was allocated a designer, Marios Schwab - if I'm completely honest, I had never heard much about the designer before then! However, after looking him up, I discovered he was actually one of the talented designers to look out for on the catwalk, and I was really impressed with his collections, so I was excited to get on with the project! I did a fashion show review of his Autumn/Winter 11 Collection.

The half Austrian - Greek designer definitely hasn't disappointed his fans with his Fall 2011 collection, as he cleans his pallet from his last collection, which saw a more colourful approach with very causal outfits worn on models that resembled Kristen Stewart's grungier days. However this time, Schwab returns to the catwalk with an impressively sensational visual collation, referencing Claude Montana's bold design's from the eighties, with a collection much darker and full of neutral tones portraying an Autumnal theme. After every nude coloured outfit that made it's way down the catwalk, came a deep red outfit, which added drama, intensity, and passion to the collection, with each outfit so perfectly structured, making the models appear almost battle ready. This collection proceeds to excel in the styling as well as the designs themselves; Garments that are aimed at a more sophisticated younger woman.

Schwab continues to embrace his love for craftsmanship which is reflected throughout the entire collection.
"There is a subtle modernity in tradition" Schwab once said, and he definitely brings this statement to life with this collection, where tradition meets modern class and elegance.
Marios Schwab has really embraced the return of modesty in this collection, with the higher necklines, and turtle necks, staying well away from plunging necklines and low V-neck cuts oozing obvious sex appeal. Instead of using flimsy transparent materials, he went for thicker textures, varying between luxurious materials such as silk, leather, and corsets, which were richly embedded with Swarovski pearls outlining a very feminine silhouette. The pearls were incorporated into the designs with intricately cut collars displaying his usage and love for craftsmanship and all the complex techniques associated with it, something Marios Schwab is noted for.

Defining sophistication, elegance and class, his models descended the catwalk looking fresh faced and innocent, with very subtle makeup, finished off with a tight bun on top of their heads - but this is beyond any doubt, a case of 'less is more'. With chic modern clean cut styles, his models looked fantastically elegant and pristine. Each model had been picked out with a lot of thought, as each ones clear skin tone complimented the outfits they were wearing. The intricate cuts defining each garment slightly resemble Marios' Autumn/Winter collection last year, which was inspired by the traditional Austrian style dirndl.

However, despite the clean cut appearances and innocent portrayal, Schwab never fails to add that edgy element to his collections, and this time it was the laced up wedge boots and leather that brought out that rebellious factor. From flowing dresses to micro coats, it is obvious that each garment has been thought through with care and has been molded into place, bringing into reality what Schwab envisions in his mind, adding new dimensions of elegance. Marios Schwab has really outdone himself this time, keeping up his label as one of the most eccentric London based designers.

So you're probably thinking this is an extremely long review, but we had a word count to reach!! I would much rather have written something shorter personally, but we can't always have the easy way out. As well as writing the review, we had to pick a publication and set the review out in the layout of that publication. I picked DazedDigital, as I thought this was the publication that best suited Marios Schwab's recent collection. So the image that looks like a printscreen below, is actually how I presented my review, and I used Photoshop and InDesign to re-create my own "webpage", trying to keep the design as similar as possible to the original. It was a lot of work, but definitely a project I enjoyed doing!

I think it's time I did a post on my favourite Russian model, and friend, Liza Shashenkova. She is stunning, and photographs amazingly, not to mention, she is also great fun to work with! Here are the photos from the last shoot I did with her, which was a while back, and I think it's about time we did a shoot again. She was one of the first models I shot, back when I decided to start photographing people, and has been a friend of mine ever since.
The makeup on this shoot is done by the talented Kym Nagyos, who is also great fun to work with.

I came across the recent photoshoot of Anne Hathaway, photographed by Mert and Marcus for interview magazine. I must say, this shoot is stunning! I would never have imagined that Anne Hathaway could pull off a gothic fashion shoot before. The dark, gothic themes are striking, and every photograph expresses great emotion. Some of these photos almost look like still images taken from a film! Definitely feeling inspired!
